How I fell in love with Divinity: Original Sin 2
What should be the perfect RPG? Surely many will answer that it should have deeply worked out the plot and characters, an exciting ENT and a huge number of possibilities for playing. What of this is Divinity: Original Sin 2? Oh, she gives something more. Much more. And today I will talk about my impressions of the game and why you should play it.
A little story
The divinity series has a rather long story, it found a place for different genres and eras. There were both RTS and classic RPGs, developed civilizations with the surroundings of steampunk and medieval fantasy. The world was transformed with each game, and the possibilities were also improved with it.
Personally, my acquaintance began just with the last game in this universe at the moment. Being a little familiar with this genre, and before that I played only a couple of CRPG, I decided to plunge into it deeper, and the choice fell on the whole creation of Larian – Divinity: Original Sin 2 – step -by -step party RPG. And now I present to you my thoughts that have accumulated in me for many decades in this magnificent game.
Plot and quests
Original Sin 2 for me is like a good book. As if you are reading a new story in a well -described fantasy world, filled with many interesting characters with their funny stories, each of which captivates stronger than the main plot and gives pleasure, forcing to laugh or seriously think about. In this game, in no case should additional quests can be missed, at least because they give the necessary experience, but besides this, they all contain history. And even the smallest quest does not leave indifferent. How, for example, a dispute with a skeleton-philosopher, as a result of which he simply dies from the awareness of the meaninglessness of his being. Or a quest with trolls that guard their bridges and ask to get rid of each other.
Such stories in the game of a lot, and all quests have a high level of elaboration. And tasks related to animals and their problems are amused most of all, so it is strictly forbidden to go through the game without the skill of animals, otherwise you can lose a lot of bright characters, funny and cute moments that will come across this talent very often. So you can resolve the dispute of the dog and cats about which one of them loves the owner or help the dog find his girlfriend, fastens cows, chat with rabbits and proteins and adopt a chicken. The animals are written and voiced no worse than the other heroes, and their characters differ for each species, so the dialogs with it are so remembered.

The main plot in the game itself is quite interesting, it is shrouded in intrigues and a bunch of riddles, which will have to be figured out. At first, it seems a simple, noticeably clear designation of good and evil, but the further the history develops, the more the boundaries are eroded and by the last third it is difficult to make a clear choice of side. And, unfortunately, to this very last third, the quality of the story gradually falls, eventually leading to … however, more on that later. The plot is full of epic, but without unnecessary pathos, for which I liked it.
Separately, I would like to tell about the characters and their personal quests. I played for Fein and took with me a Lose, the Beast and the Red Prince. And in this game, the Sopartians are not just walking encyclopedias from Pillars of Eternity, ready to dump you tons of information about the world,. In Original Sin 2, each character is a unique personality. Dialogues with them tell their personal history, their path, thoughts and emotions, first of all, they work to reveal the characters themselves, and not the Universe of the game, which cannot but rejoice, because in the end the player receives very interesting worried partners, for whom he wants to root.
Now I’ll tell you a little about everyone. In general, play for undead extremely interesting. This race has a unique gameplay features. He cannot be treated with ordinary potions and food, but poison helps him, in battle he can pretend to be dead. And also the replicas of undead – the best replicas in the game. But also his storyline is very closely intertwined with the plot, why it is doubly more interesting to pass it, because thanks to it you can learn much more about the world. A branch of quests of the arrogant red prince reveals the meaning of his race for the world of the game and makes it possible to participate in a very significant event. In the quest of the beast, political intrigues are revealed, a mortal danger to an entire city and the fate of the entire kingdom of gnomes. But most of all I liked the storyline of Lawse, in the course of which I have to fight with a demon who took possession of her mind, because in the end I received the best reward – her song. And, speaking of the characters, I also want to note the voice acting. The game has been voiced all the narrator’s dialogs and replicas that will accompany you the whole game, which is why all dialogues are perceived much more pleasant than the same silent Pillars of Eternity. And this voice acting is not just. Although it is budget, it is very well done, and in the game, love for their characters is noticeable in the role of actors.
And now I will say about the worst, the only thing that turned out to be bad for me in this game. This is her epilogue. Divinity: Original Sin 2 is a great story with a terrible ending. For some reason at the very end, the developers suddenly forgot about the progression of the characters. The dialogs with the team on the restored ship were catastrophically short, which very much disappointed me very much. It was sad to end his long journey through Rivellon with such bad farewells with already loved characters, whose stories I penetrated, whom I experienced and to whom I helped with their difficulties. But, fortunately, the terrible ending is the only thing that overshadowed my passage, so I found it the best not to get upset because of it and remember only the good moments of the game.
Gameplay
Start a story about gameplay is worth a quote from Sven Vinka, the creator of the game: “Everything that can be used is to use”. It fully reflects the philosophy of the game, its distinctive feature and the approach of the developers themselves to create the world. So, let’s talk about freedom in interactions with the world. She is absolutely unlimited in it. Without exaggeration. Whatever you want to do – you will most likely come out for you. You are free to go anywhere and do anything. For example, everything that has a strip of health can be destroyed. Who needs pumping theft and master keys, if you can just break the door? The game has such a cool thing as teleportation. And, believe me, she will help you out more than once. Thanks to it, you can get a chest or item that flickers on a neighboring island, which can not get on the other way, it will help you bypass cunning labyrinths and obstacles, allowing you to replay the developers, well, or with its help you can play with the fighters on the battlefield as you like, but I will tell you about the battles in this game a little later. Want to rob the merchant? To do this, you have a whole detachment, one member of which can easily cleanse his pockets (if the desired skill is pumped, of course), while the second will speak him. But this is just a slight piece of everything that is available to you. You can use any opportunities for the study of the world and passing tasks, creating funny situations.
The system of partners who can be divided and sent to explore the world as it is convenient for you, gives you freedom in studying it. I admit that I did not use this chip much, because at every step a danger can harden, and to meet with it not a complete detachment may not be the best idea. But for this case there will be a slight solution – a teleport pyramid, the use of which allows you to be at the right point in an instant where one of these same pyramids are located, which will allow you to quickly collect all the characters in one place. Another interesting mechanics are the elements. Often fiery, ice or toxic puddles will simply interfere with you to pass. But in battle, this will become one of the most important elements of tactics. You have a choice of poison, fire, water, wind and blood. And what to do with them is to solve only you. You can combine them as you like, while receiving dozens of options. Throw the oil into the enemy, set it on fire, then hurt it with water, forming a cloud of steam, and finally hit it with lightning. And this is only one of dozens of possible combinations, and yet any surface can be cursed or blessed. Experiment! The battles here are truly magnificent. Each battle requires thoughtfulness and an unusual approach, the use of everything that your heroes can, because enemies here are not stupid and also use many different skills, which is why each fight is different from the previous one. But, perhaps, such an approach to battles can be bored for a long passage, because sometimes they really clarify.
As in any RPG, in the Original Sin 2 there are many ready -made classes, but the division into them is conditional, therefore you are free to fully configure the development of your characters, creating various variations, and at any moment you can simply turn to the magic mirror on the ship and redistribute all points of characteristics and skills, completely changing the type of hero. No one will forbid to make a non-fingers necromancer, who will be undead and will be able to hack all the locks with his bony fingers, or an arrow with hydraulic focus with a pumped belief and the ability to talk with animals. The same will affect the dialogs and the passage of quests, and on all the passage in general. Often, many tasks can be passed in several ways, for example, using different characters during dialogs, because each of them has its own unique replicas.
But no one will tell you about all this, you yourself will have to guess to such a kind of manipulation with the world, observing and experimenting. And I think it’s incredibly cool. A certain element of the immersion of the Sima, making the study of the superinoractive world much more interesting and giving a sense of the discoverer. The game allows you to use ambiguous approaches with which you can easily bypass the methods of quests planned by developers, and even encourages it for this. Thanks to this, I do not want to move away from the game for a minute, just to open something new, understand a complex puzzle or completely bypass it, try out all kinds of builds and tactics of battle and much, much more. Original Sin 2 is an exciting world, large cards filled with many all kinds of riddles, interesting and funny quests requiring extraordinary thinking.

The soundtrack of this game completely conquered me, and now, while writing this text, I enjoy it, once again listening to my favorite tracks. Well, on this, perhaps, I will finish my reasoning. My goal was not thoroughly to understand the mechanics of the game and convey their essence exactly. I just hope to attract people’s attention to this wonderful game that I gave me so many emotions and took a separate place in my heart. And, despite not the best narrative and spoiled epilogue, I still consider it a very good game, because she brought me great pleasure and a lot of impressions of her passage. Divinity: Original Sin 2 gives the player more freedom in the study of the world, wigged the role and fulfillment of quests, gives many impressions, entertains his humor in dialogs and various situations. If you are looking for a game that will suck you head for long tens, and perhaps hundreds of hours, and will allow you to be distracted, which is extremely important in our time, then I can definitely recommend you Divinity: Original Sin 2. This is your personal adventure in which you are free to do whatever you want. One of those games that I went with sincere interest and enthusiasm.

The game has its controversial and weak points, but now she is one of the best in her genre. And also this is a great sequel. The graphics were prettier (I was especially kaifalun from the movements of the characters, otherwise everything was very dubovo in the original), the interface has become many times more convenient, and the icons on the map do not interfere with the dive in any way. But they help to remember what-how, if you did not go into the game for several days. And optimization (I’m talking about poppy) has become better. Funny thing: in the first part, I did not understand at all whether it is possible to change the language of the game. It itself has sucked to the language of the system. It is impossible through a gog, it is impossible in the game, in files with the game the system does not particularly allow you to pick up. Not that it was a problem, just funny. But what the interface was buggy already annoyed. In the second part I did not notice problems with anything at all. Plus a cool feature with the ability to connect mods (though, then Achivka will be disconnected, but I don’t need them). There are many cool pieces there to set up the game for yourself for yourself. You can even trite the characters to run faster, which is convenient.
But problems with the plot are direct tradition. Maybe just didn’t catch me, but in the entire series it was interesting to explore the world and perform side effects. But the main scenario is such, just so that it is clear why it is all.
But the characters are cool, yes. Fein personally disappointed me, his story is more about ENT than about history. And I’m not a big fan of digging in this. But Lochsa and Sebill were hooked. In general, I am interested in, at the first passage, someone took into a group of a man of lone wolves, whom I do not even remember? I don’t know what he has with quests, but at first it looks like a very ordinary person against the background of an extremely motion company.
And the only thing I did not like in the fighting is some strange implementation of two-handed weapons. Maybe I’m a fool and I don’t know how to play (the probability of this is quite high), but a character with a big stick is a straight -by super -averaged thing with which the benefit in the group.

The most important thing that I liked in the game, the fighting does not bother, most battles are a puzzle that can be solved in different ways, unlike those EE Pillars of Eternity or Pathfinder, in which the fighting begins to strangle with monotony, although these games are better than DOS.
I could not love Divinity: Original Sin, although I played both parts with a friend in coope. The first part went entirely, the second was played for more than 100 hours ..
The combat system in the game is excellent. A lot of tactical nuances, a very diverse bestiary of enemies is really cool. But at the level of Laura, setting, plot, design and immersion in the world, something went wrong-it turned out some kind of vinaigrette of dubious quality. It seems like a fabulous fantasy with speaking animals, but for some reason with the elf-trapoeds and all sorts of other cringe. Well, in itself, the appearance of the heroes doused with acid, calmly passing through the fire, ice and toxic evaporation – this is clearly an overkill bordering on idiocy.
So it turns out that as a cooperative entertainment and as a collection of tactical battles the game works fine, but as a role -playing game – very weakly. Stupidly due to the setting, which is impossible to believe in, and at the expense of the characters, which I personally cannot empathize with all the desire.
He discovered it for himself in January 2022 on PS5, in February, he did not expect that he would delay, the game is really interesting and difficult, it went through its hours in 150, while probably completed 85-90% of the quests. He played for Ifan (archer) in a team with Fein (Necromag), Sebill (Assassin) and a red prince (two -handed).

And he felt a little moron, because for a long time it is generally not clear what is there with this cat, how long you need to run with him, and whether it gives at all at least something. The only hint is that there was something connected with the cat in mods, which means that people still got attached to the fluffy. True, I no longer remember what was there for a mod, and whether I turned it on)
The author compares the game with Poee during the review, but they are essentially different genres with various aspects in gameplay and narrative .
I would rather compare DOS 2 with Wastland 3. With all the differences in the setting, they are much closer to each other .
For starters, both are quite independent and do not require knowledge of the events of past games .
For me personally, the global plot is stronger in Wastland, but side quests and sopartians are better worked out in DOS. The author allocated a weak epilogue in DOS, in Wasteland he is one of the strongest moments in the game, after which I smiled and restrained tears .
I won’t argue about the disadvantages and pluses of combat systems, I just note that as many criticized the idea of a double armor in DOS (he himself went through a uniform party, but many say that due to double armor a complete pati on fizuha or only magicians are much more effective than uniform teams), and Wasteland has its pitfalls .
The study of the world is probably a strong game of the game. In DOS, the world is arranged by large locations that can be explored as part of one act. Wasteland is more dominated by relatively compact locations located on a global map .
Summing up, in my opinion, if you liked DOS 2, then Wasteland 3 should also like (of course, if there is no antipathy in relation to the setting post – apoche)

I went through Wasteland 3 and I can say that I liked the Original Sin 2. Wasteland is much more based on the plot, and additional quests are much more interesting in Divinity. And music in the second is much better. Or maybe I just love fantasy more.
